Steps to let us build a website
Need to find a niche first
For those who found this post and have not chosen a Niche yet, please see my post here.
Once you have a niche in mind you can move on to the next steps. Some find it difficult to know what works best.
Having the knowledge that just trying to make a website on something you think will bring you big and fast money is not the best idea. Remember that you will have to write articles for about three months two or three times a week to start to make some progress.
You will need a niche that you are both passionate about and not be bored with after about two months.
Find a name for your website
A name for your website will take a little work also. I find that it should be about the niche in one way or another to make sense to your visitors.
In my other post, I use the Cook Pot niche and Jogging shoes example. You would not want to name your website after something that does not make sense.
My Outdoor site that does furniture, lighting, and decor for your patio area is called Outdoorroomideas. Website names are all one word and look bad when typed out in a sentence.
Many people just name their websites after themselves, Johnnys fish stuff.com. This is ok as most websites do not create traffic from their name.
Pick a name that makes sense to you and make sure you are comfortable with it. The name of a website cannot be changed after you purchase it and put it on the web. You will have to purchase another domain name and start over.
Does a keyword in domain name help
It depends on who you listen to. Google itself does not think it matters as of 2011 in this video below.
Many people who are building websites that are making money think that it will help with finding and ranking your post. If you do a search and your keyword is in the domain name, it will be bold and stand out more.
Using a proper keyword tool could help you in your search for a domain name, I use Jaaxy, it is another free tool from my Wealthy Affiliate membership.
Purchase a domain
There are many places that want you to purchase your domain. Many will offer a low price upfront for the domain name and throw in hosting for a year. Then the price goes up dramatically and you either move to another host or pay the price if you keep that name.
Company Name | Domain cost | Starting Hosting Price |
---|---|---|
Wix | Free, must use their website builder | Free |
Namecheap | $12.95 | None |
HostGator | Free if you host and use their website builder | $2.75 |
BlueHost | Free first year if you host | $2.95 |
Wealthy Affiliate | $13.95 | Free with premium membership |
These are just a few of the places that you can purchase a domain name at, there are at least 100 companies that you can purchase a domain through. Do your research before you start, I prefer to use Wealthy Affiliate as all of my hosting and training is at the same place.
I can also purchase my domain name and build a website in less than 5 minutes all in one place. I can then learn all I need with the training to build a profitable website.
Watch the video below from Kyle at Wealthy Affiliate as he builds out a website with a domain name in less than 5 minutes.
Select a theme from the many
There are thousands of themes out there for websites. My suggestion is that if this is your first online website, pick a theme that is simple and free. There are many free themes that will work for you.
After you have structured your website and have a greater feel of what you want it to look like, then look for a theme that fits the look. Many premium themes will allow you to use on as many websites as you wish after you purchase them.
Changing themes on a new website should not slow down your progress, on a website that is years old it may cause some problems in search engines for a few days or weeks. This depends on the complexity of the new theme.
Make sure there is proper support and the theme is updated often. With the many updates in WordPress and Plugins, a theme can be outdated in less than 6 months if it does not have proper support.
Putting it all together
Once you have found the name that suits you best, found a place to purchase your domain name, found a hosting company, it is time to put it all together.
I prefer to have all my eggs in one basket here, as with purchasing, hosting, and support, Wealthy Affiliate is hard to beat for the price. The big thing here is that you get 24/7 training, live help, Hosting, support, Jaaxy keyword tool, and a writing platform all for one price.
Check out the deal at Wealthy Affiliate in my post here or just go to the website and check it out for yourself. You can build a test website with the builder below, check it out to see how easy it really is.
Now you will have to build out your website
Use the form above to test out how easy it is to build your own website. It is easy.
After you have purchased your domain and built your website with proper hosting, now is the time to add your great content to gather traffic. This is where the real fun begins, as with any business adventure it will start out slow until Google or Bing finds you.
For the best results in getting traffic and making money on your website, I recommend writing at least 3 posts a week for three or more months to get you started. If this is not for you, then you are wasting your time as this is not a get rich quick program. It is a program that you can make a big income with if you dedicate yourself to it.
I have many websites that I have built for myself and others. Your website will be an asset for your business after you have it structured and will increase in value as you add your great content.
